Call (505) 275-0500

Implant provisionalization is the process of placing a temporary restoration on an implant abutment after surgery. This temporary restoration, also known as a provisional implant crown, protects the implant and soft tissue while it heals.

When is it done?
  • Immediate provisionalization
When a temporary restoration is placed within 48 hours of implant placement.
  •
  • Delayed loading
  • When a provisional restoration is placed after initial healing.

Why is it done?
  • To achieve esthetic results
  • To preserve soft and hard tissues

What are the considerations?
  • The provisional restoration should be modified to reduce the number of disconnections from the implant.
  • The provisional restoration can be adjusted to clear all centric and eccentric contacts, in other words, you should not bite on it.
